Sony Pictures’ Venom raked in $855 million globally. So, a sequel to the superhero movie seems inevitable. As of last November, Sony is releasing an unnamed Sony-Marvel sequel on October 2, 2020. This sequel could only be part of their Spider-Man universe and conclusively, a Venom 2. The sequel is set to be released to theaters on the same day the first was.
Venom first made an appearance in Spider-Man 3 when he dueled Spider-Man/Peter Parker, and was played by Topher Grace. Venom is the story behind how a cranky journalist named Eddie Brock became the villainous symbiote, Venom. Fueled by his desire to defame Carlton Drake, founder of Life Foundation, Brock encounters the evil extraterrestrial, Venom, who uses Brock as a host. Sony has not commented on content for Venom 2.
Tom Hardy as Venom/journalist Eddie Brock, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, and Woody Harrelson as rival Carnage/Cletus Kasady will return in the second movie. The director is unknown. Producers, also from the first film, are Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Matt Tolmach.
According to Variety, they are rejoined by Kelly Marcel, who wrote the screenplay for Venom and its sequel. Marcel, represented by WME, Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, and attorney Jason Sloane, was a screenwriter for Fifty Shades of Grey.
