The 2020 Venice Film Festival is still set to go as planned in September. They will still have red carpet event, which could be the first of its kind since the coronavirus pandemic, and will still host guests and hold its typical events, per Variety.
As local hotels and theaters open up in Italy and around the world, so will the festival’s Palazzo del Cinema, where the main screenings are usually held, and the Hotel Excelsior, where most of the film industry’s A-listers stay during the festival. These locations, and most other high-class hotels in the area, are looking to be opened by July.
Venice’s governor, Luca Zaia, announced that the theater will be allowed to hold more than the currently-required maximum of 200 people, as well as having an outdoor viewing location. They plan to socially-distance media and viewers as much as possible, with keeping the public health in mind as much as possible.
It remains to be seen who will refrain from attending the event due to concerns about the virus.
