Actor Myles Bullock has been cast to portray legendary hip-hop producer and artist Dr. Dre in Snoop, Universal Pictures’ upcoming biographical film chronicling the life and career of Snoop Dogg. Directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Dolemite Is My Name), the feature stars Jonathan Daviss (Outer Banks) in the titular role as Snoop Dogg. The film explores Calvin Broadus Jr.’s rise from Long Beach, California, in the early 1990s to becoming a global music and cultural icon. A foundational pillar of the narrative focuses on the pivotal creative partnership between Snoop and Dr. Dre. After Dre received a demo cassette featuring Snoop’s vocals during the development of his seminal 1992 solo album The Chronic, he featured the young rapper across several major tracks, including “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang”. Dre subsequently served as executive producer on Snoop Dogg’s landmark 1993 debut album, Doggystyle.
Brewer penned the current draft of the screenplay, working from an original script by Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther). The production incorporates music from Snoop Dogg’s extensive discography.
Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum are producing the feature alongside Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures President Sara Ramaker. Imagine’s Jeb Brody serves as executive producer, with Senior Vice President of Production Development Ryan Jones and Director of Development Tony Ducret overseeing the project on behalf of Universal Pictures.
