Woody Allen has received the rights back for his film A Rainy Day in New York from Amazon Studios. Amidst the Me Too movement and the sexual assault allegations toward Allen, the release of Allen’s movie was delayed by the studio. The film was completed in the fall of 2017. While domestic distribution is still unclear, foreign distribution of the film is slated for fall of 2019.
Starring Timothee Chalamet, Elle Fanning, and Selena Gomez, Chalamet and Fanning both go to New York while Fanning works on film project. She pursues another person working on the film, played by Liev Schreiber. Chalamet and Gomez eventually cross paths during their time in the city. In the early stages of the film, Chalamet and Rebecca Hall had announced that they were donating their salaries earned from the movie to various charities.
Allen is still involved in a legal battle with Amazon over the film deal he had made with them. The contract detailed an $80-million deal between the studio and the director for multiple future projects.
Possible domestic distributors for the film include smaller companies that want to increase their popularity. A spokesperson for MediaPro said that they have had a long-standing relationship with Allen and they evaluate film directors by their work product rather than their outside actions.
