Trailer for Woody Allen’s ‘Wonder Wheel’ Looks Like Nothing He’s Done Before

Kate Winslet stars almost as one-woman show in the trailer for Woody Allen‘s latest flick Wonder Wheel. Premiering this week at the New York Film Festival, the film follows a carousel operator and his clam-house waitress wife as they take in his estranged daughter who is on the run from gangsters. In the middle of the mix is a lifeguard who witnesses the messy events and dreams of being a playwright.

Along with Winslet, the film stars Jim Belushi as her husband, Juno Temple as Belushi’s troubled daughter, and Justin Timberlake as the strapping young lifeguard. Winslet is already turning heads in early previews of the film.

On view of the film’s first official trailer, it is clear that Allen has turned a new leaf in his filmmaking style. Collaborating for the second time with cinematographer Vittorio Storaro after their debut collaboration Cafe Society, the director of photography’s signature is written all over this film. Taking it even a step further from their first outing, Wonder Wheel is imbued with the moody lighting techniques and tones that will put audiences straight into the time period and the ensuing drama.

See the trailer below and see the film in select theaters on December 1.
