Yesterday brought the release of the official trailer for the upcoming film All Is True. It is directed by British director, writer, and actor Kenneth Branagh, who is also directing Artemis Fowl, and stars in this film’s leading role alongside Judi Dench and Ian McKellen. The movie is written by Ben Elton and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Classic.

The film follows the most prolific english writer William Shakespeare (Branagh) as he returns home to Stratford following the burning down of the Globe Theatre during a performance of his play Henry VIII. Living with his wife Anne Hathaway (Dench), he struggles to re-acclimate to a life of not writing or traveling. He attempts to enjoy life and understand what he’s been missing, seeking a sort of existential fulfillment. Shakespeare feels he has been living in the imaginary worlds he has created much too often, and wishes to re-enter to embrace of reality in all its inspiring beauty by spending time with family and partaking in hobbies such as gardening.

The film will be added to a long list of films that either adapt Shakespeare’s work or that center on the writer himself. All is True releases in the US on December 21. Watch the trailer below!

Robert Thornson Jr.: My name is Robert and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a B.A. in Film and Media studies with hopes to work in the creative industry. I have always had a passion for storytelling and since youth I've loved film. I grew up loving the movies of directors like Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and many more along with writers such as Aaron Sorkin and Quentin Tarantino. One thing I have always done is write about movies and communicate to others information about the "film community" and the industry as well as about the films themselves. I write creatively on a daily basis.
