The Aftermath of the Decimation: Teaser Trailer for ‘Avengers: Endgame’

The end has begun. The hype for Avengers: Endgame has been building for years, ever since it carried the moniker Avengers: Infinity War Part 2. When directors Joe and Anthony Russo decided to give the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War its own identity, even going so far as to proclaim that the new title would be spoiler for the first film, interest peaked. And hype has continued to build since May, when Thanos snapped his fingers and left Marvel fans in shock as they exited theaters and headed straight for internet message boards and their therapists’ couches.

“Surely Disney and Marvel will at least announce the name of the superhero sequel by Thanksgiving,” you thought as you peeled yourself from your movie theater seat and wiped a single solitary tear from your glistening eye. You’d be wrong. The hype machine has continued to build, with Mark Ruffalo and the Russos in particular teasing fans with tiny morsels of information without revealing anything of note. Even the title has remained Untitled Avengers Movie, or Avengers 4, with little to go on other than battle-worn picture of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and a sweet goodbye from Captain America himself. The silence has been deafening.

And now the excited squeals from Marvel fanboys and fangirls will be deafening, as the title is officially announced as Endgame and the first trailer explodes onto the internet like an atomic blast. When a simple title and trailer announcement feels like an event unto itself it really speaks to master-class in promotion that the Marvel Cinematic Universe manages to exhibit on a regular basis. And so it begins with Tony Stark adrift in space, recording a message as hope runs out. The Marvel logo appears and then turns to ash as the view changes to Avengers Headquarters, where Black Widow and a teary-eyed Captain America admit defeat before determination sets in and they discuss that their plan must succeed. Then we catch a glimpse of Hawkeye as Ronin, and we get a final amusing shot of Ant-Man arriving to save the day.

Today the veil is lifted, and Avengers: Endgame is revealed to the masses in what will surely be the most viewed trailer in the history of the world. How accurate were the leaks and rumors? You can see for yourself once your hands stop trembling and you’re able to click on the link below. Avengers: Endgame will snap its fingers and decimate box office records at the end of April, 2019. Christopher Aanerud: I graduated from the University of Georgia with an English degree. I enjoy watching movies and TV shows, playing video games, singing badly to pop songs in the car, eating delicious food, and drinking fine alcoholic beverages. I play basketball when my crippling knee and back pain allows, and I try to hit the gym on a regular basis. I have a son and a sugar glider, and when I'm not combing the internet for breaking news I am likely traveling or riding my Razor scooter.
