Trailer for ‘A Fantastic Woman’ Starring Daniela Vega

The trailer for A Fantastic Woman has just been released. The film is foreign drama, which takes a progressive step forward by centering its plot around a transgender woman played by a transgender actress, Daniela Vega (The Guest). While Hollywood has been reticent to feature trans actors and actresses, even choosing a cisgender man like Jared Leto to portray a transgender woman in Dallas Buyer’s Club, hopefully this movie’s success on the film circuit will showcase the importance of allowing all types of people to have their stories play across the big screen.

Vega, who is just breaking into the acting world, will be starring alongside Francisco Reyes (Vuelve Temprano).

A Fantastic Woman, which is translated from its original Spanish title of Una Mujer Fantástica, was directed by Sebastián Leilo (La Sagrada Familia). Leilo also wrote the screenplay, along with Gonzalo Maza (Casado con Hijos).

The R-rated film focuses on Marina, played by Vega, and her relationship with Orlando, played by Reyes. While they are in love, unfortunately their happiness does not last, as Orlando soon passes away from sickness. Though this is already difficult enough, Marina must deal with the prejudice of Orlando’s family as they try to bar her from the funeral and ultimately her own mourning.

The trailer can be viewed below.
