‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Breaks Viewership Record Premiere Weekend on Paramount+

Tom Cruise in "Top Gun: Maverick"

“Top Gun: Maverick” has become the most-watched film to ever debut on Paramount+ domestically.

Added to Paramount+ on December 22, “Maverick” has surpassed by 60% the “Sonic the Hedgehog” premiere weekend viewership. It has not been disclosed by Paramount Global the viewership numbers for either film.

Refreshing their memories, audience members rewatched the original “Top Gun” film in anticipation of the sequel. Viewership increased about 400% for the classic film, and even other Tom Cruise films got a boost with the “Mission Impossible” franchise bumping up 140% in viewership.

“The runaway success of this film across theatrical, digital, and now in streaming is an undeniable proof point demonstrating the power of Paramount’s multi-platform release strategy,” Brian Robbins, President, and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Chief Content Officer, Movies and Kids & Family, Paramount+. “Across all our 2022 titles, and now with Top Gun: Maverick, our studio has unlocked the value of variable windowing that streaming provides to augment a film’s overall success.”
