Lamya’s Poem is a 2021 2D animation feature film that tells the story of a 12-year-old Syrian refugee girl. This book becomes a magical escape for her where she meets the poet who shares a similar situation. Lamya will help Rumi to write the same poem that will save her life.
The film was written and directed by Alexander Kronemer who stated:

“We were inspired by accounts of displaced Syrians reading poetry and literature in refugee camps to help overcome the trauma of their displacement from home, friends, and family”
“At its center, Lamya’s Poem is about the magical relationship between artists and their audiences that can cross time and space to help both heal and transcend difficult circumstances. While rooted in loss, the film ultimately is a life-affirming and family-friendly tale.”

The voice actors of the film include Millie Davis as the title character, best known for he role as Summer in Wonder. Rumi is played by Mena Massoud who performed as Aladdin in the live action version of the Disney film. Faran Tahir performs as Rumi’s father.
