Tom Hardy To Have Lead Role in ‘War Party’

Tom Hardy is officially attached to star in Ridley Scott’s next project: a feature film called War Party. Based around the lives of Navy Seals, the film will be based on real stories from US Navy Seals; reportedly, life rights from special ops servicemen have already been purchased. Netflix will be producing and distributing the film, after an intense bidding war between other major studios such as Lionsgate, Amazon, and Universal.

Andrew Dominik will serve as director. Dominik is most well known for directing 2007 film The Assassination of Jesse James with Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck, the later of which received as Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Before signing on for Assassination of Jesse James, Dominik was planning on directing Leonardo DiCaprio, Charlize Theron, and Drew Barrymore for the film adaptation of 1952 novel The Killer Inside Me, but choose to do the former instead of the later (ironically Casey Affleck would star in the 2010 film adaptation).

Scott and Hardy have been working together on Hardy’s tv series Taboo on BBC. The 19th century drama series about a shipping empire was conceived by Hardy and his father Chips Hardy. Hardy can next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, alongside Harry Styles, Cillian Murphy, and Kenneth Branagh.

As usual, War Party is one of the many projects Ridley Scott is currently working on. In the next year, look for Alien: Covenant with Michael Fassbender, James Franco, and Katherine Waterston, which Scott directed. Also keep an eye out for films he produced such as Blade Runner 2049 with Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, and Jared Leto, and Murder on the Orient Express with Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Josh Gad, and Penelope Cruz.
