Tom Cruise Led ‘Digger’ Receives Disastrous Domestic Office Debut

Digger, the dark comedy starring Tom Cruise, isn’t making much of a dent at the domestic box office. The newest film from Birdman and The Revenant director Alejandro G. Iñárritu had a disastrous domestic box office debut. According to Deadline, the film is projected to make only $8 million domestically in its opening 3-day weekend.

Digger’s box office results are just one of several flops from Warner Bros. After a rock-solid 2025, which includes box office hits like A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Weapons, F1, and Superman, 2026 has proven to be a disappointing year for Warner Bros., with major flops like The Bride! and Supergirl. These box office numbers are also significant, as Digger is officially the last film Warner Bros. will release before the studio merges with Paramount Skydance, which will officially close on October 6th. Digger is also estimated to cost between $160 and $180 million, meaning the film would need to gross $400 and $450 million worldwide to break even.

The results follow Digger’s mixed reviews, with critics split right down the middle. The film currently has a 52% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences seem to be responding more positively, with a 72% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Digger is now playing in theaters in North America.
