The next Jurassic World film has officially been named: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. After the immense carnage of the last movie, the title is apt, as the story ended in a fight between the original iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex and the genetically engineered Indominus Rex. While the Jurassic theme parks always seem to inevitably bounce back after yet another bout of relentless destruction, it will certainly be interesting to see how the film justifies its return this time. Criticisms of the original film often noted that Jurassic World felt like more of a callback to nostalgic memories of an iconic franchise, rather than its own fully realized animal. It will be interesting to see if this sequel has absorbed any of that commentary, especially considering its ability to rebuild the world of the narrative after the climax of Jurassic World.
Returning cast members will include Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), Bryce Dallas Howard (Pete’s Dragon), Justice Smith (The Get-Down), Daniella Pineda (The Detour), Toby Jones (The Adventures of Tintin), Rafe Spall (Prometheus), and BD Wong (Focus). For fans of the classic original movies, there’s great news: Jeff Goldblum will also be part of the film.
Directed by J.A. Bayona, the script has been written by Derek Connolly (Kong: Skull Island) and Colin Trevorrow. Trevorrow also directed the first Jurassic World. His next upcoming film will be none other than Star Wars: Episode IX!
The film will emerge onto screens on June 22, 2018.
