According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carrie Coon (TV’s Fargo) has signed on for the New Regency heist thriller Widows. The all-star cast boasts the names of Oscar Winner Viola Davis (Fences), Michelle Rodriguez (The Fate of the Furious), Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2), Oscar-nominated actress Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Tony winner Cynthia Erivo (Broadway’s The Color Purple), Oscar-winning actor Robert Duvall (The Judge), Oscar-nominated actor Liam Neeson (Silence), Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Andre Holland (Moonlight), and breakout star Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out).
Steve McQueen (director of Best Motion Picture Oscar winner 12 Years Slave) helms from a script he wrote with Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl), based on the 1983 British miniseries of the same name. Davis, Rodriguez, Debicki and Erivo play four women whose husbands are killed during a failed armed robbery attempt. The surviving widows join together to pull off the heist themselves. Coon will play a widow who refuses to join in. McQueen and See-Saw Films are producing. 20th Century Fox will distribute the film.
On the small screen, Coon is known for her work on Fargo and HBO’s The Leftovers. She made her feature film debut in Gone Girl, and has a role in the upcoming sci-fi film Kin. She is currently shooting Steven Spielberg’s drama The Papers alongside Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.
Widows is currently in production and will bow in theaters on November 16, 2018.
