Tim Miller Explains His Exit from the ‘Deadpool’ Franchise

Tim Miller recently gave his input on leaving the Deadpool franchise. After the success of the first film, many fans were left wondering why Miller exited the franchise entirely, though Ryan Reynolds mentioned briefly that creative differences over the character ultimately lead to their split. Ryan Reynolds has become synonymous with the merc with the mouth since first playing him in 2009’s X-Men Origins and pulled a lot of strings to give the character justice in his own feature film, so it’s not surprising that he would feel that his vision is what’s best for the infamous Marvel anti-hero.

In an interview with KRCW’s the Business, Miller mentioned, “ It became clear that Ryan [Reynolds] wanted to be in control of the franchise. You can work that way as a director, quite successfully, but I can’t. I don’t mind having a debate, but if I can’t win, I don’t want to play. And I don’t think you can negotiate every creative decision, there’s too many to make. So Ryan’s the face of the franchise, and he was the most important component of that, by far. So if he decides he wants to control it, then he’s going to control it.”

Although its well known how close Reynolds feels for Deadpool, it doesn’t go without saying that Miller had equal impact on making the film. Unfortunately, Miller’s creative issues also fell under similar circumstances while directing Terminator: Dark Fate, with James Cameron producing. As of now, Deadpool 3 looks to be on its way for Disney, though the studio has yet to announce the director for that film.
