Another Round took home top prize at this year’s BFI London Film Festival. The film stars Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen, and is directed by Thomas Vinterberg.
Mikkelsen plays Martin, a once brilliant tutor and family man who becomes a shell of his former self. The film is currently sitting at an 88% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes with 40 reviews.
“Thank you to the audience at the London Film Festival for bringing this award to us,” said Vinterberg. “We are very proud to receive this from a British audience; it’s a great honour. We are so sad that we can’t be there.”
Vinterberg and Mikkelsen previously worked together on The Hunt, a 2012 Danish film about a teacher wrongly accused of sexually abusing a child in his class. Mikkelson won the best actor award at Cannes Film Festival in 2012 for his performance.
The best documentary award at the BFI London Film Festival went to Benjamin Ree’s The Painter and the Thief, which showcases the unusual relationship between a Czech painter and a Norwegian man who stole two of her works.
Tommy Gillard won best short film for Shuttlecock and best XR/immersive art went to Anna West and David Callanan for To Miss the Ending.
