‘They Cloned Tyrone’ Casts Jamie Foxx & Teyonah Parris to Star Alongside John Boyega

Netflix’s new sci-fi film, They Cloned Tyrone, revealed to Deadline that Jamie Foxx and Teyonah Parris would be joining the previously announced lead John Boyega. The film revolves around series of eerie events that pits an unlikely trio together and onto the trail of a ‘nefarious government conspiracy.’ The Hollywood Reporter described the film as a ‘pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper.’

The movie will be Juel Taylor’s feature-length directorial debut. Taylor previously worked as a writer on Creed 2, and a director for 2 episodes of the BET series, Twenties.

The script for the film, written by Taylor alongside filmmaker Tony Rettenmaier, was chosen as part of the 2019 Blacklist, an annual compendium of the most liked unproduced scripts. The Blacklist has previously included eventual Oscar winners like Jojo Rabbit, Argo and Juno.

Foxx and Parris both have films slated for release before the end of the year. Foxx stars in the new Pixar film Soul, which is set to release November 20, and Parris stars in the upcoming Jordan Peele-written spiritual sequel to Candyman, releasing October 16.

Boyega’s part in the film was announced prior to the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, where he played the role of Finn. Boyega recently discussed his struggles with Disney mistreating and pushing minority characters to the side in the latest trilogy of the blockbuster franchise. Now he has moved on from the franchise and will be free to pursue unique projects like this one.
