Filmmaker Brady Corbet’s new project, The Brutalist, recently revealed that its cast will include Marion Cotillard, Joel Edgerton, Mark Rylance, Sebastian Stan and Vanessa Kirby. The movie chronicles 30 years in the life of a holocaust survivor and his wife who flee post-war Europe to rebuild their legacy in America. The film is described as an “epic saga and unconventional love story,” and will be shot in English, Yiddish, Hungarian and some Italian.
“The Brutalist is a film which celebrates the triumphs of the most daring and accomplished visionaries; our ancestors,” Corbet said. “It is the project which is so far the closest to my heart and family history. I so look forward to reuniting with many of our closest collaborators, as well as some exciting new ones, to realize what we all anticipate to be a vital and urgent motion picture.”
Corbet’s last film, Vox Lux, starred Natalie Portman and premiered at the 2018 Venice International Film Festival. The picture was praised for its lead performance, visual style and intelligent approach to its central themes.
“Brady’s third feature … is a continuation of his unique interpretation of major historical moments of the past century,” Producer Andrew Lauren said. “This story resonates for me as the grandson of an immigrant artist, and is unquestionably relevant to the political discourse we are having in America today.”
The Brutalist is set to begin production in Early 2021, and currently has no planned release date.
