Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment are bringing The Transformers: The Movie back to international theaters for its 40th anniversary in a newly remastered 4K presentation, screening from September 17 through September 22. In addition to the 1986 animated classic, screenings will conclude with Optimus Prime: Awakening, a brand-new 12-minute animated short marking the final original voice performance of the late Peter Cullen as the iconic Autobot leader.

Cullen voiced Optimus Prime for over four decades, establishing the character’s signature commanding voice and moral authority across numerous television series and feature films. In Optimus Prime: Awakening, Cullen returns to the role alongside fellow franchise veteran Frank Welker, who reprises his roles as Megatron and Soundwave. Welker paid tribute to his decades-long collaboration and friendship with Cullen, highlighting the late actor’s dedication to integrity, leadership, and the foundational values he brought to the character.

Produced as a cinematic love letter to the Transformers community and Cullen’s lasting legacy, the short bridges classic continuity while exploring a vulnerable yet resolute depiction of the character. International screenings have been confirmed across markets including France, Singapore, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, and Peru. The anniversary theatrical release offers fans a final opportunity to experience Cullen’s definitive vocal performance on the big screen.
