‘The Suicide Squad’ Will Not Be Delayed Anytime Soon, According to James Gunn

The COVID-19 Pandemic has been affecting the movie industry, but not just in regards to delays. Even films that were currently in production have halted their production due to studios encouraging social distancing during this pandemic. This means that films slated for 2021 releases like Matt Reeves’ The Batman will be pushed back depending on how much longer the coronavirus will last. Fortunately, there’s one DC film still set for 2021, as James Gunn reassured that his upcoming DC project The Suicide Squad will not be delayed for the time being.

The news came about when Gunn was responding to some questions on his Twitter page, amongst them the status of The Suicide Squad‘s production. He was asked if the film was expected to be pushed back and replied by saying that, due to production being ahead of schedule, there is no reason to delay the film yet. “We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting and set up editing from our homes (due to a post production team and studio with foresight) before quarantine,” Gunn stated in his reply.

While The Suicide Squad has been a lot further into production, Gunn also told fans not to expect any first look images or trailers anytime soon. Gunn did mention, however, that he has been working on cutting the film right now and editing  has been very smooth, stating that there are other factors slowing down any image or trailer releases. Hopefully if things are much better in the coming months, The Suicide Squad will not have to go through any delays before its release.

The Suicide Squad is set for release August 6th 2021.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
