The Latinx House is returning for the 2024 Sundance Film Festival to continue hosting latinx projects. From Ponyboi to the anthology series God Save Texas, the Latinx House will feature its filmmakers and cast members and collaborate with other houses.
The house started nearly five years ago to honor “the long legacy that Latinx creatives have built at the Sundance Film Festival.” According to co-founder Olga Segura, the annual Latinx House is meant to be a space “welcoming and accepting of the journeys being told and inclusive of the leaders who are shaping [their] culture.”
Many Latinx filmmakers, actors, and producers will be speakers for this year’s gathering. The speaker’s list includes Border Hopper filmmaker Gabriela Ortego, Center for Cultural Power president Favianna Rodriguez, and head of the Chispa brand Julia Estacolchic.
In addition to a series of events in its own spaces, the house will collaborate with other cultural houses throughout the festival. On January 21st, they will dedicate their time working with houses like the Black House, RespectAbility, and IllumiNative’s Indigenous House.
Co-founder Mónica Ramirez expressed the organization’s excitement to collaborate with these houses and the upcoming festival. “We have had the opportunity to witness increased representation at the festival, as well as in the industry, and we have witnessed a strong community form over all of these years,” she said.
