Star Wars has done it again. As of this weekend, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has officially made $1 billion dollars worldwide, joining a very select group of 31 other films to pass that mark, according to Variety. This year has continued from last year and has now produced four films in that list, including Despicable Me 3, The Fate of the Furious, and Beauty and the Beast.
Rian Johnson’s entry into the Star Wars film franchise has been met with the most split audience score since the prequel films. Although it is critically acclaimed by reviewers and critics, the fans of the films have either thoroughly enjoyed the film or have torn it apart for its subject matter, its answers to certain holes in the Star Wars Universe, and the continuation of certain character arcs (We will try to leave this spoiler-free). Many have been trying to consider the film a failure, yet its current gross worldwide definitely says otherwise.
The film features much of the cast from The Force Awakens, including Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, and the late Carrie Fisher, who unfortunately passed away late last year. The film also featured some new faces including Benicio Del Toro, Kelly Marie Tran, and Laura Dern. Regardless of the backlash, the film is definitely a must-watch for the visual spectacle.
