‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ on Schedule Despite Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Death

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s sudden death on February 2nd throws a number of active projects into question, the most high-profile of these being The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and 2.  Lionsgate has released a statement in which they announced that the release dates for both segments will not be affected.Filming for the third and fourth installments of the franchise began in September and Hoffman had just seven more shooting days.  Lionsgate will not be recasting the project and will edit and rewrite the scenes with Hoffman which were not shot prior to his passing.

Several of Hoffman’s other projects face more questionable futures.  He was set to star in the Showtime series Happyish, and had already shot the pilot.  A source told E! News that “His role would have to be recast and there weren’t any other actors in serious consideration aside from Philip.”  No official statement about the future of the series has been made, but prospects look bleak.

Ezekiel Moss, Hoffman’s second directorial effort, is also at a standstill.  Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams recently attached themselves to the prohibition era film and it was to be shopped around the European Film Market.  The film will not be shown to buyers while the producers decide how to proceed with the project.

The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part 1 and Part 2  will be released on November 21, 2014, and November 20, 2015 respectively. Mr. Hoffman has two other completed films A Most Wanted Man and God’s Pocket.  Both films have domestic distribution, although release dates have yet to be announced.
