Robert Evans, producer of iconic films like The Godfather, Rosemary’s Baby, and Chinatown, has passed away at age 89, according to his publicist Monique Evans.
Born Robert J. Shapera in 1930, Evans was a prolific studio head, producer, actor, and father. His career spanned over seven decades and produced over 17 films as head of production for Paramount, and 32 in total. He also has at least 8 acting credits. Throughout his life, Evans was married and divorced a total of seven times. It was with his second wife Ali MacGraw that he produced a child, son Josh Evans.
Later in life Evans wrote an autobiography that detailed his turbulent life and successes and failures, both personally and professionally, that was published in 1994 entitled “The Kid Stays in the Picture.” The memoir was later turned into a 2002 documentary of the same name which premiered at Sundance Film Festival.
In 1998, Evans suffered a stroke that left him subsequently paralyzed on one side of his face and unable to speak, but after a lot of therapy and concentration, eventually made a full recovery. Up until his death, Evans was actively developing projects. He had at least four projects in development stages, one being a superhero film based on a character created by the late Stan Lee.
Evans’ cause of death has not been disclosed at this time. He is survived by his son and grandson. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
