New Details Released for Edgar Wright’s Horror Film ‘Last Night in Soho’

After Edgar Wright’s last hit film Baby Driver, audiences are curious to see what the famous cult director will have to offer next. Unlike his other movies, however, Wright’s next film Last Night in Soho will be a huge departure from his more comedic work. In a recent interview with Empire, Wright gave a few more details about his first horror film.

Last Night in Soho  is set in London and stars Anya Taylor Joy (Split) as Sandy and Thomasin Mckenzie (Jojo Rabbit) as Eloise. The film is being marketed as a psychological horror entry with a 1960s feel to it. Empire also released a set photo with Wright and Taylor Joy interacting with her daunting a 60s style outfit adding to the 60’s aesthetic.

Wright, however did not give any real plot details about the upcoming film but hinted at a huge mysterious connection between Eloise and Sandy. Wright also mentioned that Sandy has a fascination with the 1960s, noting how he he shared a similar connection of being “afflicted with a decade I didn’t live in”. Wright expands on the 60s aesthetic by stating “You think about ‘60s London – what would that be like? And the reality of the decade is maybe not what she imagines. It has an element of ‘be careful what you wish for”.

Last Night in Soho seems like a unique take on both the horror genre and Edgar Wright’s prior filmography.  The 1960s psychological horror aesthetic is something not often seen in recent horror films and, while Wright has yet to fully create a horror film he’s shown his absolute love for the genre as shown in 2004’s Shaun of the Dead. Add the fact that Edgar Wright has simply directed some of the most well-received films in recent memory and this certainly seems like a welcoming change of pace.

Last Night in Soho is set for release September 25th 2020.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
