‘Tenet’ Release Date Delay is Becoming More Likely

As previously covered here, the release of Tenet and other major blockbusters are reliant on the majority of theater markets opening, including big markets in the United States like Los Angeles, New York, and San Fransisco. Christopher Nolan’s film has been the lone outlier in the film industry, clinging unto it’s July 17th release date. With San Fransisco eyeing to reopen their movie theaters in mid-August under their reopening plan and Los Angels and New York expected to follow suit, industry experts are less than optimistic about the film’s prospects.

The release of Tenet is reliant on a number of industry factors, with the word being that Warner Brothers, the studio releasing the film, would need about 80% of the world’s theaters to be up and running for the film’s release to be feasible.

The latest trailer for the film did not include a release date, featuring only a title card reading “Coming to Theaters.” This is a good sign that Warner Brothers is considering delaying the film. The current public health crisis brought on by the coronavirus pandemic is certainly a fluid one and it is a good sign that Warner Brothers is closely monitoring the situation as it can change at any moment. While this is certainly disheartening news for movie fans everywhere, it’s important to not loose sight of what’s important in these times, the public health of citizens across the world. If Tenet is pushed back, it’s for the protection of the most vulnerable around us and that’s what truly matters.
