The first teaser trailer has (finally) dropped for the Ridley Scott’s much anticipated next directorial effort, The Counselor, a crime thriller about a west Texas lawyer who gets caught up in drug trafficking. Check it out:
It may be hard to discern from the very limited footage, but Michael Fassbender plays the lawyer who gets into trouble with Brad Pitt’s and Javier Bardem’s characters. Maybe it’s just an odd combination of anticipated movie and lack of substance to talk about, but much has been made of Javier Bardem once again taking on quite the peculiar hairdo:
Bardem was nigh-recognizable as the blonde-maned villain Silva in last year’s Skyfall, but perhaps most distinctive was his cut in No Country For Old Men, for which made tongue-in-cheek thanks to the Coen Brothers in his acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar he won for the role.
No Country For Old Men is one of three novels to date from celebrated author Cormac McCarthy that have seen feature film adaptations (along with All the Pretty Horses and The Road), but The Counselor is McCarthy’s first screenplay. Many notable writers have struggled with the transition between the two mediums (F. Scott Fitzgerald, for example, is nearly as famous for his Hollywood failures as he is for his literary successes), but McCarthy’s direct yet atmospheric style of writing would appear tailor made for the jump. Ridley Scott, for one, had no qualms about working from a McCarthy script. At CineEurope panel Scott praised the work, saying,”When Cormac McCarthy’s script came through my letter box, it was like a time bomb going off. It has to be one of the best screenplays I have ever read…I called Cormac and said I had to meet him right away.”
The Counselor hits U.S. theaters October 25.
