Disney has found their stars for their live-action adaptation of Tangled.
Teagan Croft joins the project in the spotlight as Rapunzel, with Milo Manheim signing on for the role of Flynn Rider in this adaptation of the 2010 animated film. Said animated film was the 3rd highest grossing animated film of 2010, grossing $592 million worldwide for the Mouse House.
This will be the first major studio film for Croft, as the Australian star is best known for her work in the DC Studios’ Titans series. Manheim comes from a musical background and has worked with Disney before, starring in Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise. More casting news has since come out for Tangled, with Variety reporting that Kathryn Hahn is currently in talks to play the villain Mother Gothel.
Michael Gracey will be the one helming the project behind the camera, best known for his directing of musicals The Greatest Showman and Better Man. Kristin Burr and Michael De Luca are attached as producers, with the former having produced Freakier Friday and Cruella for Disney in recent years. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson penned the script, also writing for Disney’s Marvel in recent years for Thor: Love and Thunder. The film also currently has two executive producers attached, Lucy Kitada and Jessica Virtue.
Disney took its time casting these two roles, with auditioning taking place in the U.S. and the U.K. Finalists screen tested in London before the winter holidays, and it is clear that Croft and Manheim made quite the impression. The duo takes the reins from Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, who voiced the magical haired princess and her unlikely savior in the now classic animated film. The importance of the animated film should not be understated, with the project considered to be a staple in a new age renaissance for Disney Animation.
Croft and Manheim could be in position for a career-altering opportunity with this casting, considering 5 Disney live-action adaptations have joined the billion-dollar club. These films include 2010’s Alice In Wonderland, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, 2019’s Aladdin, 2019’s The Lion King, and, most recently, Lilo and Stitch in 2025. The musical elements will undoubtedly be a major factor, with songs from the original such as “I See The Light” still well known today.
