SXSW Announces ‘The Idea Of You’ Screening To Close 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival

SXSW Film and TV Festival is set to take place on March 8-16 in Austin and will conclude with the world premiere of Michael Showwalter’s new film, The Idea of You. Showalter is a two-time SXSW Audience Award winner for Hello My Name is Doris (2015) and The Big Sick (2017).

Starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, The Idea of You follows Solène, a 40-year-old single mom who steps in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s trip to Coachella after her ex bails. There, she has a chance encounter with Hayes Campbell, the 24-year-old lead singer of August Moon (the hottest boy band on the planet). The two share an instant connection and begin an unconventional whirlwind romance. Solène soon discovers that the challenges of being in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she can handle. The film is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Robinne Lee.

Claudette Godfrey, SXWX VP of Film and TV, said about the film:

“Michael Showalter has done it again. The Idea of You is a sexy, unexpected masterpiece with a fresh perspective on love, age, attraction, and the timeless nature of human connection. We can’t wait for our audiences to have fun falling in love with Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine as their irresistible chemistry catches fire!”

Other cast members include Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, Viktor White, Raymond Cham, Jaiden Anthony, and Dakota Adan. Oscar-winner Cathy Schulam produced the film alongside Anne Hathaway, Gabrielle Union, Robinne Lee, Eric Hayes, and Michael Showalter under Amazon MGM Studios.

The 2024 festival will also feature screenings of The Fall Guy, 3 Body Problem, and Road House, with more to be announced.
