Sundance Site Crashes as Festival Website Overwhelmed

With the 2023 Sundance Film Festival now less than a week away, many festival-goers are eager to score tickets to screenings. As it turned out, too many fans were too eager. When tickets went on sale yesterday at 10 a.m. MT, the Sundance tickets website crashed, forcing the institution to suspend sales for the day.

Prospective ticket buyers were met with a laggy interface. People had trouble logging in with the website, so they were overburdened with users. When people could log in, many users were redirected to accounts that weren’t theirs. Many ticket sales were lost, and panic and confusion ensued. After eight hours of this, The Sundance Institute suspended sales for the day at 4:06 MT.

Ticket sales returned today at 12 p.m. MT, but much of the damage was already done. Tickets to premiers were already sold out, and many festivalgoers were left without tickets. For those who lost tickets, the institute recommends emailing their support inbox.

The festival will start as scheduled on January 19th and run until the 29th.
