Focus Features intends to campaign Obsession breakout star Inde Navarette for the gold at next year’s awards circuit. The 25-year-old actress will serve as the face for the Oscar campaign in the Best Leading Actress category as the studio will submit entries in nearly every category. Alongside Navarette, writer/director/editor Curry Barker will be submitted across three respective categories, a feat not commonly seen. Most recently, the Anora filmmaker Sean Baker swept all three categories in 2024, so a nomination and win are not unheard of. Obsession, which originated as a low-budget, romance-oriented Monkey’s Paw tale, ended up grossing over $505.6 million worldwide against its $750,000 budget. The film catapulted Navarette and Barker as up-and-coming forces within the film industry, and an Oscar’s/awards conversation was inevitable.
