Sundance: Amazon Closing Deal for Scott Burns’ ‘The Report’ starring Adam Driver

One of the many movies that is gaining a bit of attention at Sundance this year is The Report. This film is a drama written and directed by American screenwriter and director Scott Z. Burns and stars Adam Driver, Jon Hamm, Annette Bening, and Jennifer Morrison. It follows the story of the real life events of Daniel Jones (Driver) leading an investigation into the interrogation techniques of the CIA following the 9/11 attacks and the attempt by the White House to keep the truth from getting out.

The Report premiered at Sundance on the 26th of this month and three days after its initial release, it has been acquired by Amazon for $14 million. This ensures worldwide rights of the film which Amazon will distribute around the time of awards season. The Report is not the only high priced deal that Amazon has made in Sundance’s marketplace of premiering films, as they started by acquiring Mindy Kaling’s comedy Late Night for $13 million.

With Sundance underway in the early days of the festival, little has been made out about the reception of the aforementioned films even with Amazon shelling out large sums for distribution rights. For all the movie news coming out of this year’s Sundance festival, Mxdwn has you covered.

Robert Thornson Jr.: My name is Robert and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a B.A. in Film and Media studies with hopes to work in the creative industry. I have always had a passion for storytelling and since youth I've loved film. I grew up loving the movies of directors like Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and many more along with writers such as Aaron Sorkin and Quentin Tarantino. One thing I have always done is write about movies and communicate to others information about the "film community" and the industry as well as about the films themselves. I write creatively on a daily basis.
