Actress Kristen Stewart is attending this year’s Sundance Film Festival for the first time as a director. Her short film Come Swim is among the list of submissions being shown at the festival this year. Come Swim is reportedly a diptych about one man’s day.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about her directorial debut, she also divulged the ideas behind her next project, a short that will center on gun control. According to the actress,
My movie is about some guy who goes through heartbreak and is super sad about it, and that was my friend thing I was thinking about for three years. And it feels really first-world white-people problems, and I came here a little bit nervous about it, considering the timing, because people are going to be like, ‘That doesn’t matter,’ ” she said. “But I feel like things are going to shift in this really beautiful way [with her next film].
Stewart, who says that she has always had goals to direct, is ready to get involved in topics relevant to our time. “You don’t have to be a politically involved person to be uber-aware of the fact that very basic humanitarian ideas are being so incredibly trampled on,” also adding, “my next thing is going to kick ass.”
Stewart, whose 2016 was a year for the record books, starring in 6 films altogether, looks to be ushering in a new era for her career.
