Studiocanal Acquires Dutch FilmWorks

Studiocanal has acquired an majority share of Dutch FilmWorks, an industry leading production and distribution company operating out of Benelux. Dutch FilmWorks both produce in house and distribute 25 films a year. Since their launch in 1998 they have over 900 Dutch and international films in their back catalogue on top of their hit franchise The Claus Family.

The acquisition of Dutch FilmWorks is part of Studiocanal’s aim to consolidate its pipeline of premium European content with international prestige. Owned by Vivendi-backed Canal+ Group, Studiocanal already has a strangle hold on the top four European markets; the UK, Spain, Germany, and France as well as their hold on Australia and New Zealand. Their bread and butter is their TV division, which makes over 200 hours of Television content a year. Their content comes from their in house banner Studiocanal original or through their several European production companies; including Germany’s Tandem Productions, the U.K.’s RED Production Company, the U.K.’s Urban Myth Films and SunnyMarch TV, Spain’s Bambu Producciones or Scandinavia’s SAM Productions.

Now with another successful company under their belt, Studiocanal’s prospects look bright as they look for more opportunities for buying or starving out whatever European competition is left in their path to continental domination.
