Minari actor Steven Yeun is set to star opposite Robert Pattinson in Parasite director Bong Joon’s upcoming sci-fi thriller. The film does not have an official title yet, but it is known to be based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7.

This is not Yeun and Bong’s first collaboration: the duo previously paired for Netflix’s action-adventure Okja. Along with Yeun and Pattinson the film will feature Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, and Naomi Ackie.

According to the book’s publisher, St Martin Press, the high-concept cerebral thriller could be described as a combination of The Martian and Dark Matter. The plot centers around Mickey7, a disposable employee, known as an “expendable,” who is part of a human expedition that is set to colonize the ice world Niflheim and refuses to be replaced by his clone, Mickey8. It is yet to be revealed, though, to what extent Bong, who is also writing the screenplay, will follow the original storyline.

The movie marks the Osar winner’s first feature since 2019’s Parasite, a comedy-thriller which became the highest grossing South Korean film in history, as well as the first non-English-speaking-film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Apart from Bong, the film will be also produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dooho Choi. Peter Dodd will oversee the project on behalf of Warner Bros.

Until then Yeun will play in the sci-fi horror Nope by Jordan Peele which will be released in theaters on July 22.

Valeri Vankov: I recently graduated high school and will be moving from Bulgaria to attend Yale University in the fall. My interests range from data science to finance to trends in the entertainment industry. When it comes to movies, I am always down for a good social commentary or a psychological thriller. K-dramas are also on my watchlist. In my free time I enjoy going outdoors and reading the works of Haruki Murakami, Kurt Vonnegut, and others.
