Steven Soderbergh’s Tech Thriller ‘Kimi’ Releases New Trailer

Steven Soderbergh’s newest thriller Kimi features Fantastic Beasts star Zoe Kravitz and Riverdale‘s Robin Givens. In the trailer released two days ago, Angela Childs (Kravitz) asks Kimi, an Alexa-type AI device, what time is it. In the next scene, Angela runs as the trailer asks “What If Every Sound”, then cuts to Angela asking Kimi to call someone named Dr. Burns. Another question is asked: ‘What If Every Moment Was Recorded?”

Pink Floyd’s hit single ‘What Do You Want From Me’ creates an intense moment when Angela begins to question her Kimi. Angela overhears an apparent mysterious criminal murder over her Kimi device and goes on to seek justice by risking her life to locate the murderer of the crime. But everyone around her doesn’t believe that she could ever discover a premeditated murder over a device that’s supposed to help someone, not stalk them.

Soderbergh gave a recent interview to IGN on creating the film. He spoke about Kimi, which represents the Amazon device Alexa: “I’m just sort of stunned that people allow these devices in their homes at all. The idea that it is only ‘activated’ when you speak to it and activated is just ridiculous to me. I mean, the idea of just having no privacy… There’s no ‘get’ for me that would make it worth it. I was interested in working with a story in which that is a central question. Is it worth it to have one of these things in your home?”

This year’s Valentine’s Day weekend, tech thriller Kimi will keep HBO MAX subscribers on the edge of their seats. The film premieres on February 14. Watch the new trailer below.
