After the success of Get Out, Jordan Peele wants to tackle another thriller with controversial but necessary themes, and he looks to have some help from famous director. Spike Lee, the director behind powerful films like Malcolm X and Do the Right Thing, is currently working with Peele on Black Klansman, a thriller film focusing on an African-American policeman who infiltrates the ranks of the Ku Klux Klan, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Black Klansman specifically focuses on Ron Stallworth, a police detective of Colorado Springs, Colorado, who joined the Ku Klux Klan through a newspaper ad in 1974. He effectively convinced the other klansmen of his “white supremacy” through phone calls and other communications, which eventually earned him the top spot of the local chapter. He would also send a white police officer to play his “persona” at meetings. Stallworth was able to stop various cross burnings and other violent and negative activities that the Klan would try and do.
Currently, John David Washington, son of Denzel Washington, is in talks to play Stallworth. Washington is currently a star in the HBO hit show Ballers, and if the contract goes through, he would begin filming with Lee and Peele sometime this fall. We are extremely excited to see the collaboration of a veteran director and an up and coming producer-director.
