Sony Pictures and Disney have just released the final trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the upcoming superhero film set in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), will see Tom Holland (The Odyssey) reprise his role as Peter Parker, the New York native that doubles as the web-slinging Spider-Man.
The trailer, released Tuesday, showcases Peter’s journey beginning with the first MCU-set Spider-Man film, subtitled Homecoming, and leading to the climactic events of the 2021 multiversal story Spider-Man: No Way Home.
No Way Home ended with Peter Parker erasing his existence and identity as Spider-Man from the memories of those he loves the most, including girlfriend MJ, played by Zendaya (Dune), and best friend Ned, played by Jacob Batalon (Novocaine).
The synopsis for the upcoming film is as follows:
“It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”
The trailer begins with Peter narrating a letter he wrote, directed to MJ.
“My name is Peter Parker,” he begins. “I have something to tell you that’s gonna sound crazy, but it’s the truth.”
The narration plays over Peter revealing his identity as Spider-Man to best friend Ned, as well as the advancement of his romantic relationship with MJ. It continues over footage recapping Peter’s balance with crime-fighting as well his complicated social life. He is seen fighting alongside the other two live-action Spider-Men in 2021’s No Way Home, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, respectively.
Peter finishes his narration, a plan to reintroduce himself to MJ as he once knew her, instead he doubles down and pivots away from the confession.
Footage from the upcoming Brand New Day is then shown, with Spider-Man facing off against Marvel icons like Hulk, Scorpion, and an unidentifiable threat that only Peter can detect.
