Sony’s Spider-Man Universe Set To Feature Spider-Women

After the breakout hit of Spider-Man Homecoming, Spider-Man has had a massive resurgence. Spider-Man appeared alongside the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers Infinity War and will soon star in Spider-Man: Far From Home. But Sony has also created the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse which looks to be a self-aware, funny and engaging film with an eye popping visual style. But the most exciting aspect of the film was the fact that it would feature six different Spider-Men across their respective universes, including Gwen Stacy as Spider-Woman.

With all this in mind, Deadline revealed that Sony is creating their own Spider-Man universe that will involve Spider-Woman. Deadline also revealed that the film is set to be an animated feature that will focus on three generations of Spider-Women using their Spidey powers for good. Bek Smith, who wrote for the T.V. series Zoo, is set to write the script. But the most exciting aspect of this news is the involvement of Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, who wrote and directed the outstanding 21 Jump Street and its sequel, along with the brilliant The Lego Movie.

Although details about the upcoming film are light on the ground at the moment, the direction of the film is certainly positive. With the positive early screen reviews of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and a sequel green lit by the studio, Sony may well get their Spider-Man groove back.

Keidan Chavez: I am an undergraduate attending Whittier College majoring in screen writing and journalism. I love to watch movies, play Red Dead Redemption 2 and read whenever I get the chance. I will watch anything related to Wright, Tarantino, The Coen Brothers or Nolan. I will also play anything made by Naughty Dog or Rockstar Games. I love being able to experience great stories, especially when I am able to share that experience with others. I also love learning about movies and sharing that knowledge to those that are just as passionate.
