Marvel fans were livid when Sony announced that they would be taking Spider-Man back from Marvel/Disney, thus preventing the web-slinging superhero from being part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. We were excited to find out how the cliffhanger from Spider-Man: Far From Home played out and, Spider-Verse aside, Sony doesn’t really have a great track record when it comes to their superhero movies.
At the time, no one knew what Sony would do once they got Spider-Man back, but now Sony has revealed their plans to create a movie based on the Spider-Man character Madam Web. According to Collider’s Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, the writers behind the recent Power Rangers movie and Gods of Egypt are set to write the film’s script.
In the comics Madam Web is an older blind woman and mutant with powerful psychic abilities. A reoccurring ally of Spider-Man, Web’s abilities function like clairvoyance, but because shesuffers from a debilitating illness that limits her movement, she is forced to depend on a life support machine. Madam Web has appeared in several Marvel video games and TV shows, most famously in Season 5 of the 1994 Spider-Man: The Animated Series cartoon, where she was voiced by the late Joan Lee, Stan Lee’s wife.
