The delay of The Crow reboot will be no longer. Sony has officially purchased the rights to distribute the movie worldwide, which will hopefully get the ball rolling for the film in what seems like perpetual delay, according to Variety.
The Crow was first released twenty three years ago in 1994. The film was directed by Alex Proyas and starred Brandon Lee, son of famous martial artist Bruce Lee. Lee played Eric Draven, a popular rock star that embarks to gain revenge on his murderers after he returns from the dead. Unfortunately, Lee’s involvement was marred with a horrible disaster on set. A real bullet had become dislodged inside a gun full of blanks and when it was shot, the action resulted in his tragic death.
This did not end the franchise, which received a sequel called The Crow: City of Angels two years later. There, Vincent Perez took over the starring role.
Talks of a reboot have been discussed for over a decade, with many potential names being thrown around at Relativity Media, which went bankrupt before anything could come to fruition. This left the reboot in development hell for years until Davis Films picked up the rights. The current producers are Highland Film Group, Electric Shadow, Misher Films, and Edward Pressman, the last of which is a returning figure to the franchise.
Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Aquaman) and Corin Hardy (The Nun, The Hallow) were originally slated to join the film; however, their involvement did not work out, and so neither are currently part of the crew. Nonetheless, fans don’t despair! Talks are being made to possibly bring them back to the film if their availability allows it.
