Lamorne Morris, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Michael Smith, and Matt Wood are set to star in Sony Pictures’ SNL 1975, directed by Jason Reitman and inspired by the untold stories behind the inaugural episode of Saturday Night Live. The film, based on interviews with the surviving cast, writers, and crew members, delves into the chaos of the moments leading up to the groundbreaking broadcast on October 11, 1975.
Morris will play Garrett Morris, O’Brien will take on the role of Dan Aykroyd, Smith will portray Chevy Chase, and Wood is set to play John Belushi. The screenplay, co-written by Reitman and Gil Kenan, captures the real-time countdown to the iconic opening line, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”
Morris, currently featured in FX’s Fargo and Netflix’s Unstable, previously starred as the lead in Hulu’s hybrid live-action/animated series, Woke. O’Brien, recently seen in Ponyboi at Sundance, has upcoming projects including Caddo Lake and Anniversary. Smith, recognized for his role as the Riddler in Gotham, appears in Todd Haynes’ May December and Netflix’s Transatlantic. Finally, Wood, known for his Broadway roles and TV appearances, rounds out the lead talent for SNL 1975.
