More acquisitions out the 2016 Sundance Film Festival to report on. Today, Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the family dramedy The Hollars, directed and starring former The Office alum John Krasinski. James C. Strouse (People Places Things, Grace Is Gone) wrote the original screenplay.
The Hollars, Krasinski’s second feature film following 2009’s Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (he also helmed a few episodes of The Office), features the actor as John Hollar, a man who returns to his hometown following news that his mother has taken ill. The impressive ensemble cast is rounded out by Margo Martindale (August: Osage County), Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect), Richard Jenkins (Bone Tomahawk), Sharlto Copley (District 9), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Smashed) and Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses).
Krasinski can currently be seen in theaters appearing in Michael Bay’s 13 Hours and last appeared in Cameron Crowe’s Aloha. He lends his voice to the upcoming animated feature Animal Crackers alongside wife Emily Blunt (Sicario)- that film is expected for release sometime later this year. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to have a partner like Sony Pictures Classics. To have The Hollars join their long list of impressive films is a true honor,” Krasinski stated post-sale.
No word yet on when The Hollars might make to theaters, so we will stay tuned.
