Sony Moves Releases Dates of Numerous Films to 2021, Including ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the movie industry big time, with so many films being delayed to a later date than initially expected. Now Sony has been complying with this unfortunate event, delaying some of their more highly anticipated films like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Morbius and a few others.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was initially set for a summer release of July 10, 2020, but has now moved to March 5th 2021. Not only is Ghostbusters getting a March release, but Sony’s next Spider-Man spin-off film Morbius is also set for a Spring 2021 release. Morbius will now come out a few weeks after Ghostbusters on March 19, 2021.

Meanwhile Sony’s long-delated adaptation of the video game Uncharted, which was set for a Spring 2021 release, is now coming out on October 8th, with Ghostbusters taking its original release date. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway has also been delayed from August 7th 2020 to January 15th 2021, despite already being delayed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Meanwhile the Tom Hanks war drama, The Greyhound, and and an untitled project from Sony and Marvel have been delayed indefinitely.

Despite many films from Sony being delayed, one film was actually pushed up. The Kevin Hart-lead drama Fatherhood has been pushed to October 23rd 2020, with its initial release date of January 15th 2021 being taken by Peter Rabbit. While it is unfortunate that many movie fans have to wait longer for these films, it is to make sure every single moviegoer remains safe during this strange time. Hopefully once this situation has been settled, Sony will be able to give a good movie going experience to audiences for all their patience.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
