Another biopic is on the rise as I Am Woman, which tells the story of renowned Australian singer Helen Reddy, has officially been acquired by Jeff Sackman and Berry Meyerowitz of Aqute Media for U.S. distribution according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Helmed by Unjoo Moon, who previously directed The Zen of Bennett, and auctioned by WestEnd Films, I am Woman features a talented cast of Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Evan Peters, and Danielle Macdonald. The film examines the life and career of Reddy, who’s 1970s catalog consisting of her biggest hit “I Am Woman,” propelled the singer to a vocal face of the second wave feminist movement. Production of I Am Woman is being handled by Rosemary Blight of Goalpost Pictures. Blight previously produced The Sapphires and Top End Wedding alongside Moon. The screenplay was scribed by Emma Jensen.
“Helen Reddy became a superstar in the U.S., which had always been her dream,” exclaimed Blight. “Goalpost Pictures is thrilled that I Am Woman has found such a passionate home in the U.S. as Aqute, which will steer the film to find the U.S. audience that Helen deserves for her story.”
Milan Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music Masterworks, will be issuing the soundtrack to I Am Woman. Milan Records recently handled soundtracks for films such The Two Popes, Parasite, and The Revenant while their television credits include Euphoria, The Witcher, and Succession.
