Sony Announces New ‘Clue’ Films And Series In Development

It was Clue for film and TV with Sony Pictures! According to The Wrap, Sony TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television have announced a new partnership with Hasbro Entertainment to bring the classic murder mystery board game Clue back to the screen.

The new Clue projects are “part of Hasbro Entertainment’s ongoing strategy to elevate storytelling and produce film and television based on Hasbro’s most iconic brands alongside the industry’s best talent, studios, and distribution platforms.” Hasbro Entertainment has many projects in the works, including the release of Transformers One this fall.

Clue (known as Cluedo outside of the United States) is an iconic board game that has entertained the world for over eighty years. In a game of Clue, each player takes the guise of a cast of eccentric color-themed characters (Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum, Miss Scarlet, and Colonel Mustard) trapped in a macabre mansion. Players gather clues to figure out who committed the murder, which room the murder occurred, and with which tool. Clue was famously adapted to film in 1985 with a twist—the film was released with three unique endings to different theaters. Perhaps the new Clue projects will emulate this unique twist on the mystery film genre.

Zev Foreman and Gabriel Marano, heads of film and TV at Hasbro, said “Sony is the perfect partner to adapt a property as culturally impactful and mystery-defining as Clue. Nicole Brown, Katherine Pope, and their teams are tremendous creative collaborators and ideal partners to help us figure out after 75 years if it was Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the candlestick.”

A Clue reboot has been in development hell in Hollywood for many years. Hopefully, this new partnership with Sony will finally bring the iconic game back to the big screen.
