‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Sequel Officially in Development at Paramount

Sonic the Hedgehog made his first live-action movie debut back in February of this year and, despite a few delays due to the now-infamous redesign, the film managed to be a huge success. With so much hype mostly paying off, it is not surprise that Paramount announced that sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog is now in development.

The sequel announcement was made by Paramount and SEGA Sammy on Thursday. The film is set to have Jeff Fowler return as director ,with Pat Casey and Josh Miller returning to pen the script. However, no decision has been made regarding a production start date or casting, though it can only be assumed that Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey and James Marsden will reprise their roles from the previous film. Tim Miller is returning to executive produce alongside Hajime Satomi and Haruki Satomi, with Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara also producing.

News of the blue blur getting a sequel is not really surprising. Sonic the Hedgehog proved to be a big box office hit, making over $300 million worldwide at the box office on a $90 million dollar budget. It did well enough with fans and received even more praise for redesigning the character after poor reception to the first trailer. Plus, with the tease of Sonic’s sidekick Tails in the post-credits scene, fans are excited to see the next big screen adventure for SEGA’s most iconic character.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
