‘Sonic’ Sequel Rumored to Add Dwayne Johnson

With the Sonic movie becoming a big hit, many fans are curious to see what a sequel will add, beyond including Sonic’s overstuffed character roster. It was hinted that Tails and Knuckles will appear in the sequel, but according to one of the film’s actor, another big star might be joining. In recent interview, Neal McDonough mentioned that he had heard rumors about Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) appearing in the sequel.

In the interview, McDonough discussed his own personal thoughts on Sonic the Hedgehog, including the infamous redesign story. He expressed that the film did a very good job at being an entertaining film for everyone and expressed how much the redesign most likely helped Sonic’s box office success.  “He looked so great, it was a throwback to what the game was and I think they really nailed it!” McDonough said, describing Sonic’s new look. Referring to his excitement about the sequel, he briefly mentioned that “I’ve already heard rumblings that The Rock is going to be [in it]. The Rock is in part two of everything, by the way”.

It’s likely that McDonough’s comment was just a quick joke, but considering the massive popularity of both the Rock and Sonic the Hedgehog, these worlds could collide. Fans have already wondered if Dwayne Johnson will be voicing Knuckles but there’s also speculation that he would play the President in some way, due to Sonic joking in the film about the Rock being President at one point. Either way, the possibility of the Rock being a part of the Sonic universe could be a ton of fun for longtime fans of both the blue blur and the former WWE star.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
