SNL Doc ‘Live From New York!’ Will Open The Tribeca Film Festival

Saturday Night Live’s 40th Anniversary celebration is apparently the gift that keeps on giving. The Tribeca Film Festival has just announced the documentary Live From New York! has been chosen to be its opening screening. Directed by Tribeca alumnus Bao Nguyen, the film’s official description reads:

Saturday Night Live has been reflecting and influencing the United States for 40 years. Live From New York! goes deep inside this cultural phenomenon exploring the laughter that pulses through American politics, tragedy and popular culture.” The documentary will expose the long running show’s impact both in the comedy world as well as on the national and global scales. Tribeca co-founder Jane Rosenthal revealed “this is a story of a creative journey from pilot to institution and a tribute to the moments that kept us laughing long after the episodes aired.

The film is set to open on April 15 and will commence the festival that will run until April 26.
