‘Smile’ Surpasses $200 Million In Worldwide Box Office

About a month after Smile was released, it has now become one of the best horror films since the movie It was released in 2017. Smile directed by Parker Finn first made its debut in theatres on September 30, 2022.

The thriller film Smile,  follows actress Sosie Bacon who plays the role of the therapist as she begins to get haunted by illusions of her patient after witnessing their death. Smile was first meant to be streamed on Paramount+, but after various test screenings, Paramount decided to release the film in theaters.

Paramount’s thriller, has surpassed $200 million worldwide after six weeks from its released date. The film generated approximately $99.1 million domestically and $103.8 million internationally, for a result of $202.9 million globally.

One result that allowed the movie to grow was the marketing behind it. In order to promote the movie before premiering in theatres, several actors were hired to sit at a televised Major League Baseball game while presenting frightening smiles. These actions went viral around the social media app TikTok.

In an article written by Variety, CEO and President of Paramount Pictures Brian Robbins states “the spectacular worldwide performance of Smile demonstrates what is truly possible when you deliver a brilliantly sticky marketing campaign on top of a masterfully made high-concept horror film.”

Smile is now added to Paramount’s list of an excellent box office stretch. Smile stands next to 2022 Paramount movies Top Gun: Maverick, The Lost City, and Scream 2.
